How I got started in Christendom…

From birth to migration I lived my life according to me. However, in 1990 after I migrated to Canada seeing my sisters, my friends, and my parents all saved, which was symbolized by their water baptism and living a committed life to Christ and His words, I got baptized. I did it for all the wrong reasons and motives because when I looked at them I though that if I died right now, I am going to hell and they are going to heaven, so I was baptized at the very next baptism service.

To those on the outside looking in at me, they would say that I was living the Christian life. However, on the inside, I know in my heart I was not completely true. If anything, I was a good Pharisee. I was the type of Christian that caused God to dictate these words to John for the church at Laodicea in Revelation 3:15-16 “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth”. I was lukewarm for years without realizing it and when I did I couldn’t admit it to myself. Nevertheless, two weeks before Good Friday in 2010 at a Sunday night service while the praise and worship team sang “He was nailed to the Cross”, I read the words displayed on the monitor, and first the first time the words become real to me.

I realized I am a sinner and could never reach heaven by pretence or by my own good deeds. In that moment, I saw the cross, I saw the hill, and I was finally enlightened in what the cross and the hill represents. With tears streaming down my face I confessed my sins; I asked God for forgiveness and committed my life completely to serve Him.
